Hello All,
I finally was able to finish my coop. The run is 15x by 8 and the coop 6 x 5 x 5. Any ways, I'm currently having to put my chickens away at 730pm here in South California. My chicken just got transferred from the brooder I had in my garage, which they took over. How long will it usually take for them to learn to put them selfs away? Their about 10 to 9 week. Yes I know!. Kinda old to barely being placed in the coop but its was raining off and on for the last 2 months which made building difficult and slow. Can I get some advice or tips?
THANKS

It's a learned behavior. They'll get there. Try adding a light temporarily to the coop. As it gets dark they will naturally be drawn inside the coop towards the light. A 15W bulb is plenty.

I'm not a fan of locking them in the coop. As stated earlier, you can put a dim light in the coop that comes on near dusk and it helps draw them into the coop. You may have to physically put them in the coop and on the roost at dusk for a few days, but they'll eventually get it and go in on their own. You can then remove the light or leave it.

I just had the same issue. It took me almost a week of putting them in the coop between 730 and 8 at night. They’re on their third night in a row of doing it by themselves. They’ve been in the coop about 2 weeks now and are a couple days over 8 weeks now.
