Our girls are only 17 wks old. Their combs and waddles are starting to color up and get bigger. I was wondering whether most chickens laid their eggs in the early a.m. or when? My neighbors chickens are super loud at night, like 9 p.m. and later. I think it's a little odd, but maybe not?? They even get eggs laid after dark??? Our flock is out in their yard by 8 and in the coop by 8. Their choice not mine, but it works. Is this a good sign?

do they free range? do they automatically go back to their coop/nests? We let the girls out in the morning for about an hour and then again in the late afternoon. Other than that they're in their yard?

I have 3 that are laying. Out of those three, two lay late morning, and the other is usually in the afternoon. They free range from Noon until 8:30/9:00pm. So far, those three all lay in the nest boxes.

I'm still waiting on 5 hens to start laying. They are anyday now. Hopefully, they will follow the lead of the 3 that are already

I found it after 2pm. Yesterday I was out in the yard and she was in the coop. I did not hear any noise at all, but after a while I checked on her. She had just laid her second egg! It was still wet and warm! That was about 2 pm. My old hens would lay before 10am. So, I guess it can be anytime at all!

OK, so do they automatically go back to their coop to lay???

We let the girls wonder the yard, supervised twice a day, just curious if I will need to look under bushes?
