I have 5 babies they are 6-8 weeks old. two sex-linked, 1 barred rock an Australorp and a Wyandotte. They are currently living in a washer/dryer box and a puppy cage connected. about 13 square feet total with 2 - 2.5 ft roost at opposite ends. They are very close always staying together even when there is plenty of room to spread out. They squeeze on one roost at night to be together. If one is removed without the others they fuss until their buddy is returned. Last weekend they had their first outing in the yard in the new run for a couple hours. the Coop won't be ready for a few more weeks. Yesterday they decided to shred the box I have lining the puppy cage. It's a team effort from what I can figure. Today their interest in shredding cardboard has dwindled but I'm afraid they will get a second wind and go after the washer box next. Is this normal? Anything I can do to waylay their new found hobby until the coop is ready? I thought about giving them more easily accessible cardboard to keep their interest away form the washer box. Or would I be better off taping down every exposed edge to discourage them all together. Do they have enough space? Will more outside time help?

Any suggestions from the awesome BYC community would be appreciated!

Can you wrap the box in a little chicken wire fence so that if they break through they're still contained? Just unroll it around the outside of the box as a back up.
