Will you raise a chicken breed you do not like?

I have a Plymouth Rock hen -Apple came to me when she was about 2 years old, no longer lay egg, troublesome with bullying other, sweet to human and do not like chicken 🤣

She makes this sound as if she has some sort of deep issue that no one understand, she is happier when being held, hugs, and spend time with human. Troublesome as she is, I love her ...I don't know why.

Isa Brown...it is set for reproductive issue due to a 7 eggs laying a week. Would I keep Isa Brown again? ...Yes and No......I still have a few in my flock that are on birth control at the moment. When I don't have Isa Brown in my flock anymore, then I will know for sure if I still want them or not.

@VegaCoyote like you say it is going to hurt to see your little hen Isa Brown go through reproductive ill health. ❤️ I hope your is one of those lucky one that might not have reproductive issue. My neighbour has a flock of Isa Brown and one of that hens is broody, sit on eggs..that is super rare, but it does happen.

For me it is still hurt after mine were gone. I remember how each of them go through it and they still want to go on living.

I love my little Pekin and Japanese bantams, they are easy to handle. Pekin bantam makes tiny sweet sound, the sweetest chicken sound I heard to date.

So far, I have not come across a chicken that I do not like, they each have their individuality. Yes some of my chickens are annoying as anything, but they also sweet equally.

I have not seen a boiler chicken in real life, only on tv.

No, I raise birds for eggs and personal enjoyment. I don't make any money off of them

I am also not a fan of bantams but I will consider them before I keep Rhode island reds. The hens tend towards being bullies and the roosters are more human aggressive than usual. They are also too productive for my tastes. Sure, I want birds that are good layers but I want them to have some chill, I want my birds to lay for a long time and not lay all the eggs they have in a relatively short time. Easter eggers are what I'm looking for in a bird. Docile, lays well but not too well with fun colors to boot and stinkin' cute

Will you raise a chicken breed you do not like if there is profit in it?
I'm not raising chickens for profit. I started out raising them for tick control so I got a mixed bunch of hens I didn't even know what they were. Then I found that I could love the little beggars so I started picking and choosing various breeds. Now, after 15 years, I'm narrowing my flock down to Ameraucanas because they have my heart. There is no profit in these at all in my area. Honestly I've never met a chicken I didn't like. But I would not raise Naked Necks if I could make $100 profit off each one, so, no.
