We used to have a rooster and when he started getting mean my husband would grab him by his feet and hold him this way (upside down) until he calmed down. In the meantime, I would arm yourself with a rake and don't be afraid to use it.

BROILED LEMON CHICKEN

1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 (2 1/2 or 3 lb.) broiler-fryer, quartered
4 med. tomatoes
2 tsp. grated lemon peel (optional)
2 tsp. chopped parsley (optional)

Preheat broiler if manufacturer directs. In 1 quart saucepan over low heat, heat butter, lemon juice, salt, sugar, and pepper until butter is melted. Place chicken, skin side down, on large broiling pan; broil 20 minutes. Baste with butter mixture frequently to moisten and add flavor to chicken.

Meanwhile, cut tomatoes into 6 wedges about 3/4 way through, gently spreading tomato apart. Turn chicken pieces. Arrange tomatoes on same broiling pan. Broil 15 to 20 minutes more until chicken is fork tender, basting chicken and tomatoes with butter mixture frequently. Transfer to platter and sprinkle chicken with grated lemon peel and parsley to garnish, if desired.

hahahahaha all these ideas have crossed my mind and seriously have crossed it more than 10 times but nobody has black australorps in GA it seems and i kinda need to keep him until i can find another

I personally dont agree to kill a rooster that is mean. Theres other ways to go about it. Cage him seperately from everyone else & Handle him everyday. I was always told to carry the mean roo around with you under your arm while you feed everyone, water, just stroll around with him. Ive had my fair share of bad roos & have never killed one off. I currently have a nasty cochin roo & i just give him a "doink" with my foot & he backs away. Theres also the option of removing the spurs or covering them. But i would try to grab him at least twice a day & handle him, try to give him treats, whatever & hopefully he will come around. If he doesnt, rehome him when you are able to. Good luck !
