This summer three of my chickens died from heat stress. I have been trying different methods for cures and how to prevent it. What i do is every day at 2:00-2:30 (when it's really hot out) I go out and I give cold fresh water to all the birds, put apple cider vinegar in there water, and I give them frozen watermelon. This might not seem like allot but it has really helped me prevent it. I also when they get sick I like to put little pieces of seaweed in there food and I give them sugar water.

I have tubs of water sitting outside with pavers in them. I fill the tubs up to the top of the pavers and the pavers soak up the water. They are all under shade trees. The hens love to sit on them. During the day I will go drop bottles of water I have frozen, into the water, to make it cooler. I've never lost a chicken to heat but doesn't mean it can't happen....

I just posted about this. For some reason I didn't see this first.

That is a good idea but i heard that if there are fans than if you take your chickens away they will get heat stress because they are used to the cold air and when taken away are very hot.

Yes no fans I got 6 easter eggers from a guy that bought 700 chicks from a hatchery and is selling them he had huge fans. When I got them home I didn't even think about the fan problum and she got a heat stroke and died.

This summer has been a pain in the ass in socal. These passed weeks daytime highs have been 100-110 degrees. As long as you give them water and shade they'll be fine. I haven't lost any chickens to the heat i guess they got used to it.

Electrolytes saved my heat stressed/stroked bird.
