My chicks are due Friday night.
This is my first attempt at incubating and this is what I find just a few minutes ago:

Will he make it? Do I need to do anything? Is there anything I should watch for?

If everything goes normally, how long should it take from this stage to hatch?

dont touch him! he'll probably be out when you wake up tmr but let the hick do it by himself no help at all

It is not unusual for chicks to hatch on day 20 which tomorrow will be. It can take as long as 24 hours so relax and have a glass of wine. Spend your waiting time getting the brooder ready. Make sure the temp is at 95 degrees in the brooder. DO NOT open the incubator!!! This will let out the humidity and interfere with your hatch. You will probably find other eggs pipping tomorrow when you get up. Don't be surprised if the egg has not progressed further. It really does take a long time. Congratulations. What kind are you hatching?

These are Buff Orpington.

I only set 5 eggs, because this is my first attempt & I didn't want to kill too many if I mess up.

But just this morning I candled because I had a temp spike, and all 5 were moving around.

And of course since this is my first attempt, I'm both nervous and excited.

After candling, I got the temp stabilized and had them back in the bator & haven't opened it since.
