What to do with 2 roosters

For that age that's not too crazy.

Like @Pyxis said could just be exploring hormones. Lots of times the cockerels are ready to mate before the pullets are ready to let them.


Are there actual signs of physical abuse on your hens? If not I'd say there's no real problem.

One of them has feathers missing. I will keep an eye on them. Thank you for your advice

That's a tough age and if possible it might best to separate them for a month or two just to be safe.

I put my 2 cockerels in the local classifieds. One found a home, I still have the other, but he's a little aggressive & I'm not surprised no one wants him. You could also put an ad on craigslist for one of them.

two roosters are not that many for 16 hens.
I have 5 roosters with 6 hens, I did have about 25 hens but I am selling all of them.
one rooster is dominant. the other 4 roosters go after the hens, but only if he isn't around. which is just about never.

why do you have roosters anyway ?
you don't need them for egg production,
and from what I have gathered from reading,, you are not breeding them..

From the neck. When I got them I didn't know they were roosters and I am breeding them to sell the chicks

selling chicks is sometimes difficult.
been there done that.
I used to sell over 300 guinea keets per year.
along with an assortment of other birds.

the feathers from the neck are pulled out by the roosters when they hang on to do their breeding .
eventually the hens will lose feathers off of their backs, too. and often will get deep gouges in their backs from the roosters' feet sliding off..
are you ready for that ?

If you cannot sell your chicks, will you be up to butchering them when they mature ?
this is a sideline to selling chicks.

purebreed chicks are easier to sell than barnyard mix. crossbreeds = (mutts)
people who buy those are just looking for a cheap source of meat. you will be lucky if you can give them away..

hardly nobody wants roosters.
plan on hatching about half and half ratio of roosters vs pullets..

learn to make and love chicken soup..

That won't happen if you have enough hens to avoid the roosters overbreeding them. My hens have never gotten into that condition because I haven't allowed it to happen. Not saying it can't happen, just that's it's not an inevitability. It can be prevented easily.

I am not saying it is inevitable, but I had just one rooster and 30 hens and it still happened.
No gouges, bur back feathers missing on a couple of his favorites..

I am a magnet for stray chickens.
I was very happy with no roosters, but just this summer i had 4 roosters and 6 layers given to me .
my goal is NO CHICKENS through this winter. I am selling and selling when I can.
but by flock keeps getting bigger.
I had about 40 hens this spring, I am down to about 6 hens and 5 roosters now.
I am willing to give them away..

Since I am a stay at home mom I don't care I am doing it for fun not for the money to be honest with you.
