What to do with a bare back on an EE?

I figured out that I dont have a roo. I have 8 chickens and got 8 eggs yesterday...with 2 of them being triple yolkers.!!!!!!

Congratulations! And I don't think the math comment was directed at you - I took it to be directed to everyone that kept telling you to protect her back from the roo, when you clearly stated that the damage was caused before you got her.

At any rate, I'm glad you're getting eggs! And I think she'll grow new feathers pretty soon. I imagine she'll fare in the cold weather just fine.

Good luck!
Penny

I don't know how cold it is getting where you are in Ohio, but we've been down to 28 degrees here overnight already - and our chickens did just fine. Even with the few missing feathers, I imagine your hen will do well, especially if she can snuggle up with the others.

I saw your post in the Chicken Behaviors and Egg Laying forum about triple yolks - that's amazing! I have never seen that before. At this rate, I'm happy to get a single yolk egg - my little free loaders aren't laying at all, with the exception of one little Phoenix. She's a real trooper and gives us an egg every 30 something hours. I love them all the same, but that little Phoenix is quickly becoming a favorite

Let us know how that picked on hen does. Probably good you got her and spared her any more abuse.

Take care,

My EE looks like that too. Although hers isn't red or sore looking. It was and i put some neosporin on it. Cleared up the irritation. Now she's just got a bald spot. Her feathers are not growing back in though.

FRESH WHEATGRASS JUICE FOR EXTRA NUTRITION. I use this stuff all the time and give maintenance shots as well. I have a girl with a bare back and I am dosing her with juice every three days (I can because my daughter grows it) so that she gets her plumage back quickly and naturally. Wheatgrass is cheap to buy; go to your local juicebar and get a shot. Keep it in the fridge and give it to her every day for three days after that wait three days and then repeat the process. The chlorophyll in the juice acts as a body disenfectant and should keep any nasties at bay. Good luck and hope this helps, if you need any more info just email me. Cheers Lisa.

Thanks everyone. When i got her the guy handed my her and i just had to have her so i could nurse her back to health. He explained how his roosters pecked her and i said that was fine. When i had my 2 devilish millie fluer roos, they didnt help and only worsened it by running after her but not pecking it. I got rid of them shortly after. She has been a fun chicken to have. Her eggs sure are tasty.
