What to do with a lonely sheep?

Thanks, @RiverOtter. I was afraid that would be the case. 😢 I did hear of one sheep who lived to 20 years and was alone and did fine for many years. That gave me a little hope...

My goat died yesterday which leaves the two nearly 14-year-old sheep. One is struggling to walk due to arthritis, but she's on medication and hanging in there. The other seems to be getting used to grazing out in the pasture alone.

I am planning to convert part of the barn to accommodate chickens (large breeds) to keep the sheep company. Anybody think that is a bad idea?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your goat. I don't know anything about the social hierarchy of sheep, but I did like your idea of renting a couple to keep your elderly sheep company.

Maybe offer your location up to the local 4H group if someone really wants to be involved in sheep rearing for a few seasons but doesn't have their own space?

Thanks @WhySayWhat. I'm afraid of adding new sheep or letting others use our land because of the current condition of our pastures. We don't have enough land to do proper rotational grazing and such with more animals and the pastures cannot be accessed by tractors; it's the main reason I've decided to not get any more larger livestock. I'll really REALLY miss raising Katahdins, but I'm afraid I'll have to stick to raising poultry exclusively.
