I did hear of one sheep who lived to 20 years and was alone and did fine for many years. That gave me a little hope...

Thanks @WhySayWhat. I'm afraid of adding new sheep or letting others use our land because of the current condition of our pastures. We don't have enough land to do proper rotational grazing and such with more animals and the pastures cannot be accessed by tractors; it's the main reason I've decided to not get any more larger livestock. I'll really REALLY miss raising Katahdins, but I'm afraid I'll have to stick to raising poultry exclusively.I'm so sorry for the loss of your goat. I don't know anything about the social hierarchy of sheep, but I did like your idea of renting a couple to keep your elderly sheep company.
Maybe offer your location up to the local 4H group if someone really wants to be involved in sheep rearing for a few seasons but doesn't have their own space?
