Oddball Flock
In the Brooder
One of our hens recently hatched a few chicks. We have a few other hens in the coop with them and none of them seem to bother them expect for one hen that hatched one chick. She particularly targeted this one chick. We went to check on them one afternoon and found the little chick laying by the door. We thought it was dead but my husband picked it up and it was still breathing. We suspect the hen that was picking on him might have stomped on him or threw him. We set him up inside but it doesn't seem like he can walk. I pick him up and he's able to move his legs but once I set him back down he pushes himself over to his right side and sometimes even all the way to his back and extends his legs out. He manages to move around. We'll check on him at night and then again in the morning and he'll be in different spots. Is there anything we could do for it? We're not sure if he eats on his own. We help him as much as we can but there's only so much we can do for him. Is there any way to force feed him? We dip his beak in water and he'll drink but when we put him near the chick feed he doesn't seem interested in it.
Should we continue to try to help the little guy? Any suggestions to how to help him? TIA
