hey i have 3 chikens and my brother went on vacations ask me if i can take care of hes 3 chikes i put them together the first day i did not see any problem, the next day i saw one of my chikens was missing all the skin from the skull and neck half of the head is nothing but bone i know it was the chicken i saw my own chickens peking at her. my questiong is if the chicken will live with no skin in half of the skull. she is not eating well and walk very slow its been 4 day and had not die yet or should i put her to sleep.
They do have amazing healing powers. You obviously need to seperate them and try putting antibiotic onintment on the wound. For further information by people more expert than I, Try posting this in emergencies.
For future reference. You can't add two groups of chickens together without first allowing them to get used to each other, either by a fenced off area or by placing a cage with the new birds inside the area with the established ones. This type of pecking is common when trying to intergrate two flocks. The should be kept at least two weeks seperated in the arrangement just mentioned before trying to intergrate them. The night is the best time to try to make the move.
