What to do with my half blind and almost deaf duck?

Did any of them catch your interest? I have a rescue about an hour and a half away from me, but the ducks must be in a super secure cage with a top on it and you have to be approved and everything............too much work for a pair of ducks.........although they're very pretty.

Thanks for those links! I think I could just keep one of the other ducks with her though. I just hate putting another duck in ''jail'', since they love going to the pond so much. I guess I could rotate the ducks every day.

I going to start working on a little cage for her and a buddy.

Bock - I it sad to hear of the continuing problems you are having with your duck. My Stevie - Ray doesnt have a hearing problem and is doing very well outside in the yard with the others during the day. She does get left behind a bit and I have to pick her up and carry her around when herding them back inside for the night. I had them in the night pens for the day yesterday and she was flapping around and even running a few tinmes which meant she was obviously very comfortable in her suroundings. I have found she likes to have shavings under her feet rather than grass as that is what she is used to. The adults didnt pick on her like I thought they might as well- so another little win there. I will still offer her free to a good home if a can find the right person to take her- as I cant be home to watch her all the time - but may need to set her up with her own little place where she is safe. I have realised she has a certain quack which seems to mean " where are you" It is a series of three quacks with a cetain tone and pitch each time. She will also have to have a friend in a smaller enclosure if I do keep her here. I will only keep females with her as buddies- as I dont want to come her one day and find she has been taken advantage of and injured by a drake.

I hope you can find a way to give your little one a safe place to be without the need for the boat every night. Caring for a disabled animal can be so rewarding- but you do have to find ways to make it easier on yourself as well.

That's so cute! I suppose I could get her another duck, though she does already have 9 possible buddies to choose from.

I will start looking into getting her a buddy, though. Just so she can be a happy girl like she deserves to be!

I have an elderly blind duck, Gramma Grey, who up until Saturday, lived with my crippled duck, Miss Matilda in a pen inside the duck garage.
However, Miss Matilda died on Saturday afternoon. Gramma Grey is still calling for Matilda, but I have another duck who gets picked on by my drake and is with the blind duck until her bloodied neck heals.

I have another special needs duck and I plan to rotate them to spend the day with the blind one.

I have a day area for them with a little pool and grass. At night they are in their special pen (My husband calls it "The Steno Pool") because the Hugo and the geese will pick on them.

If you lived closer, I would offer to take your duck in as a companion to Gramma Grey.

I guess I could take some pictures of her. I just have to charge the camera batteries though.

Any way you could sink some fencing into an area of the pond and extend it into an enclosure on the bank for night time? Just a feather brained idea. so she and a buddy could hang out and still be safe
they could access the water and a little coop for the night.
