What to do with the coop RUN

I am sorry you felt shamed or ridiculed by anything anybody said here. I've been a member here since early March but have come here to get info for much longer than that. I don't think anybody here ever means to be critical or derogatory in any way. I believe everyone here only means to be helpful and all have the best interests of chickens at heart. I've learned so much from the helpful folks here and am continually amazed by their knowledge, expertise, experience and willingness to share and help people in need and answer questions about all kinds of poultry and fowl. I'm sure none of them meant to hurt you, but only to assist. I'm truly sorry if it came across in any other way.

Hey there! Sorry you got so much negativity I am just starting in afew days with 8 week old chickens and am so scared I am going to do something wrong (I think we all feel that at first until they just become part of the daily routine) and this coming from a 2 years and running duck mom of 7. Hopefully you feel alittle better from here on out, as this website is usually a great place for info and support!

Anyway...my duck area ALWAYS has flies all summer...its almost inevetable. They are so messy and the dirt areas around thier pool are always wet and muddy....but that is exactly how ducks like it. One thing I have done is have some lavender plants around thier area in pots that I can move around. Flies hate lavender. It is not a whole fix, but it has for sure helped a bit. I also have some dried hanging inside thier coop. There is also an all natural coop freshener spray I make and like to use once a week just to freshen things up on the walls. It is mostly vinegar, water and some essential oils that also repel flies. I can find the recipe for it when I get home and let you know! From one newbie to another, welcome!

Sorry, just compared my coop to try and defuse some of the negativity that seemed to envelope this thread. This is my first year with chickens and I only have six that are actually outside in a coop now so flies haven't been an issue yet. I am certain they will be, and look forward to hearing what some of the more experienced chicken keepers have to say on the subject :) Hmmm Chicken keepers? Poultry ranchers? Flockers? What is the correct term anyway? ;)
Definitely "Chicken Tenders" :D
