what to do with the poo and dirty bedding? advice please.....

I have one of those rotating Composters, after I fill it up i dump the rest in my Tomato beds and work it in, Next spring it should do fine. But I have way more pine shavings than I do poo.

I live in a suburban addition and have borderline "outlaw" hens. If you have an extra Rubbermaid trashcan with a lid...drill some holes in the side, top and bottom. With straw bedding the poo's will work down so when you removed the straw, just roll it with a rake (runs and yards) and by hand in the coop or large coops with a rake and most of the poo will remain on the ground/floor. Gather the poo and compost in the bin with a layer of straw, then poo, then dirt and wet it down a little and let it go through a heat before you start another layer. No need to turn for awhile...BUT your straw to poo ratio will be crazy like 90% straw. I pile it up in little piles and run it over with my mower. I have a mulching blade with a grass catcher...this will make it way easier to compost a large volume of straw...but the bin...yeah that keeps the smell down and enhances the process if you have the right combination of moisture and air and isnt as unsightly as a big pile of poo & staw.

I'm lucky to have a one acre lot next door that will never be built on. It's wooded, and I toss my soiled pine shavings from inside the coop, and pine straw (pine needles) from the chicken's run in a wheel barrow each week and walk it over to the lot and dump it in a big pile. To this I add veggie peelings, the shells of the small pumpkins that remain after the girls get done picking on it and it all sits together. We take a pitch fork and give it a little stir - nothing major - every other week. Hopefully, come spring some of it will be ready to use in our garden.

We used to have "empty" lots, but now they built houses there. So, no place like that. But I do have a few spots in mind. Peels and other food scraps are a good idea too. Thank you

i have a big pile of pine shaving and chicken poop and some hay mixed in. out behind the coop some is 3 years old going on 4 years. i offer it to anyone that wants it for gardens. i tell them come take what you want. one guy said i should bag it up and sell it by the bags. lol.

I sold it for $3 a sack this year. It was gone in 20 minutes. They keep calling wanting more. To wet to deal with now. I also gave horse manue away bye the trunk load. On Craigslist

No food scraps, but peelings, veggies, fruit, egg shells, coffiee grounds and I'm sure I forgot a bunch.
