What to do with the whey?

My son and I made cheese today for the 1st time. It was fun and great together time! Now we want to know what do we do with the whey?

Make cottage cheese. If I'm remembering correctly it's a second run of whey. The third run is used as by product filler (yogurt perchance?) or garden fertilizer. I grew up in the cheese capital of Cabot, VT but that was a long time ago so don't quote me.

It can be mixed in with your livestock or poultry food, just to dampen.

REALLY!!!! You have chickens but arent sure what to do with the whey? My girls line up at the kitchen door on cheese making day and would be really upset if I did anything with the whey except feed it to them!!!

You can use it for making pancakes too

I use it to make bread. I freeze it in 1-1/2 cup portions and thaw it out and heat it up in the microwave when I make bread... I add dry milk to the mix as well. It makes a really nice fluffy loaf of bread.
