what to do?

I tried the hanging method. My hens could just reach. But after a few hours the pullets managed to reach too. I was shocked they could streatch their necks that far. My one hen is at this time smaller then the pullets, so either way that idea is out. I also tried to place the grower feed in a box so the hens could not fit in the opening to get the grower food. That didn't work so well either. The pullets were afraid to go in the box for their food.

Well, since they can reach, just give them free choice of the food. They aren't too young and should be fine. Or, you can fill all the feeders with grower and give oyster shells free choice and they will be fine.

Yep, I gave up on the whole seperate food thing about 2 weeks ago. It came down to seperate eating areas and that was a real hassle. I place both foods out now, along with oyster shell and grit for who ever wants it. They seem much less stressed too cause the food is out all day again, and they don't knock each other over when it comes to feeding time anymore.
