So I posted yesterday my duck passed away. After son rescue we figured out it was from botulism. Never heard of it, never thought it was something like that. So it was totally my fault and preventable. I hate myself now and will never forgive myself for this. But now I have this other duck that moose looked at as her son. He seems to be doing fine but I don’t want him in his coop alone and I don’t want to get another duck so I think I have to find him a home but feel like shit about it. Not sure where to even take him to.. any ideas

I agree -- don't beat yourself up. Most of us aren't veterinarians, and even they sometimes misdiagnose. You can't expect to know everything about every ailment that befalls your babies. You gave Moose the best care you could.

Moose's "son" is probably pretty lonely right now. My first thought would be to try to find him some company. He's already lost Moose, so if he can keep his home and people, it might be better. If not, I hope you can find him a welcoming place to live.

it’s not your fault, i know other people who have had ducks with that.

do you just have one drake left then? if possible i recommend adopting a rescue drake! two boys with no girls will be best friends
Two drakes should get along good with no girls around? Maybe I’ll do that. I’d hate to fail moose again and dump off her “son” we got him as her mate but apparently she had motherhood on her mind when they met. She was always in front of him taking care of him.

aww they were so cute!!
but yes i would definitely recommend another drake. you should always have all of one gender or 2-3+ hens per drake

I’m sorry you lost Moose. I hope you can forgive yourself.
