The chicks we bought in the fall will officially turn 18 weeks tomorrow. I showed them how the book says they're supposed to start laying eggs then... lol...
But seriously I'm thinking they'll probably wait until the days are longer? What do you think? When do yours really start picking up for spring production?

It can take a little bit. I would probably get in the mind set that they will start at 25 weeks so that when they begin sooner (I'm sure you'll have a few starting up soon) it's more of a surprise than disappointment

Be careful what you wish for type thing. I think we ate/used more eggs before chickens but then again at that time I wasn't bringing home 6-12 eggs nearly every day. Enjoy your eggs.

My Australorps started laying at 22 weeks. That was in January.

I don't have either of those breeds, but I didn't have any ladies lay before 20 weeks and they were hatched last March so were at that point by August and didn't have to adjust to shorter days.

My birds usually start laying at 25 - 27 weeks.

Earliest I had birds start laying is 18 - 19 weeks.

Mine just started laying in december at 9 months. So at like 30+ weeks.

well my GLW laid at 27 weeks so do not get to eggcited
