Hello, we have two 4 month old female white layer ducks. They have been eating manna pro starter since they were born and are doing well, as well as free ranging for at least 8 hrs a day. They each get a little less than 3/4 cup a day, and weigh roughly 5 pounds. (They are not laying) Should I start feeding them maintenance feed? Do they need grit or oyster shell? How much should I feed them when they start laying? Thanks. I'm a little concerned about their diet.

Hey! As far as feed, Mazuri Waterfowl Breeder and Mazuri Waterfowl Maintenance is highly recommended, but I know it is not available to everyone. I like Purina Duck Pellets and Purina Flock Raiser. If your ducks are free range, they do not need grit. They will dig and find it in the natural soil. Once they’re laying eggs, they will 100% need oyster shells in order to prevent issues such as soft shells. They will also need unlimited feed. I actually recommend giving unlimited feed throughout their life.

@Crazy Duck Lover Ok, Thank you! I've just purchased a bag of Mazurui waterfowl maintenance and I'll let them free choice that. Once they start laying, can I just feed them maintenance feed along with oyster shell or do they need layer feed?
