I've had some conflicting advice on what to feed my chicken who had a prolapsed vent on Sunday. One says to feed only greens during the recovery stage; the other says to continue to feed normally, as her recovery is determined by her dark environment and not the food! She has been isolated from the flock and is being kept indoors in a quiet, dark room, secure in a crate - with water and greens. I found out yesterday that we can no longer buy Prep-H in Australia, so I'm pretty anxious about what suitable alternative I can apply to the area. So far it's staying inside her and the area has returned to a darkish grey (she's a Silkie). I've been washing the area and applying organic honey around and inside the vent. Any advice about the feeding and Prep-H alternative (providing it can be sourced here in Oz). Thanks heaps, Heather x

I would feed her a normal diet and give her some goodies so she can heal well. Things like cut up grapes and scrambled egg. If the vent is staying in that's a great sign. The only other remedy I know of for a prolapsed vent is using sugar. And that would be a prolapse on a cow.
Are there any other hemorrhoid creams sold over the counter that you could try?

I am told not to use hemorrhoid cream because it restricts the blood flow and you do not want to do that on your chicken. Ground up corn and grapes and eggs is good to eat. My vet told me to use white sugar and Ky as a lube.
