A lot of people put ACV in their water, and food (the birds..). Go to the first page of the FF link and read about it.

I add a couple glugs of ACV to my two 5 gal. buckets that I'm fermented in. Usually about 1 tablespoon per gallon, I think is what it is, if you are putting it in their water.

Make sure you buy the ACV that has the 'mother' in it, and not the junk that is pasteurized to death. Heinz carries ACV that has the mother in it.

do you feed the FF every day?

Pretty much it's water, Apple Cider Vinegar with the 'mother' in it, and grain and or your normal layer pellet/chick starter. It ferments the feed, which makes it easier for digestion, it ups the protein by 12%, keeps their intestines nice and cleaned out, the ACV is a natural de-wormer, and lots of other stuff.

Check it out. : )

How does ACV work as a wormer?
There is nothing in ACV that will work as a worme.
ACV is a very mild acid and only has a 5.0% acidity or around 2.4 on a pH scale and that's about the same as a can of Pepsi at 2.49.

Now if worms can live within the body which can have much lower pH value than ACV I don't think ACV is going to do one lick of good as a "natural de-wormer".

Also keep in mind that a body works to keep a normal pH level with in it, the more acid foods the body takes in the more calcium it needs to balance out the pH and the harder the liver works trying to filter out the extra acids. You may like to look into Metabolic Acidosis in poultry, chicken can get it by not only eating a high protein diet but a acid rich diet also.

Yes..that is the only feed I'm feeding. I also ferment whole grains such as, oats, wheat, barely, BOSS, etc.

Chris,

What brand is your ACV, and does it have the 'mother' in it? There are two kinds of ACVthe kind that is only 5% acidity, which is super watered down. And the ACV that has the 'mother' in it..I'd have to look on my bottle and see what the acidity was. It was more than 5%. I agree ACV that only has 5% will not work as a wormer.

I just read up on ACV, it needs to be by BRAGG, it's the only one that I know of that is not pasteurized and raw and organic with the " mother " in it, for enzymes and health benefits

My chickens receive distilled water, since our water quality is so poor. I am certain it helps with egg production since they look and feel great

I agrree, BRAGG is the best brand, and the only one around here with "the mother". I have used other raw/unfiltered brands, they work as well, but BRAGG is probably the best

We are on city water and it is heavily fluoridated, that's besides the chlorine and many other toxic heavy metals and various pesticides. In the official water report mercury and arsenic are listed as high....

We noticed the problems first with our show dogs who had tummy problems on and off that we could not pinpoint on anything real. These problems are all gone now.

And I feel personally much better too.
