As a newbie, I need your advise, please.
Our chicks are 4 weeks old....when can I give them something besides their feed??
Is it ok to give them a bit of lettuce??
Thanks for your help

Chicks that are raised by a broody eat bugs, vegetation, and anything else they can catch or find from day 1. The big thing is that they have grit from day 1. If you give yours grit, they can have lettuce and about anything else. If you do not give them grit, stick to chick feed, yogurt, and boiled egg yolk.

Don't be shocked if they are relunctant to try something new. A lot of times they are very suspicious of any new food offering and won't touch it until one gets up its nerve to try it. Once they see one eat it, they all eat it.

The other thing that might happen is that one picks up the bit of lettuce and tries to run away with it. Then they all have a fun game of keepaway untill one manages to eat it. You should have seen the first time my wife stunned a wasp and dropped it in the brooder with a bunch of 2 week olds. Hilarious.

Please accept my biggest thanks!!
I will try them with some small pieces of lettuce from the garden tonight.
First I'll get some grit in there for them to get used to.
This should be very entertaining!!!
Have a super day.
