Okay, I will admit it up front, I am a bad pea momma! I am hatching peachicks for the first time, and have no idea what feed to start them with.

I know I will need to feed them gamebird feed eventually, but what to feed them now? Do they need some kind of medicated chick starter?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I feed mine a mix of standard chick starter and ground up cat food for extra protein. I can't get the 28% gamebird starter locally here...

Also you can use Avia charge in the water. A peafowl breeder friend of mine swears by it.

Some of the chick starters they sell near us don't even make it to 20% sadly. I think the highest medicated chick starter near me only makes it to 18%, so I also mix in a little more protein for them. They sell the non medicated gamebird starter (28%) here, but that's too much AND not medicated... Why can't stores just do it better! lol

I mix the Purina medicated I think is 19% with medicated Honor Show Turkey which is 30% but went today to pick up the Turkey and they were out. Guess I'll have to give them just the chick for a few days until I can find some. My six 75% Java chicks are a hand full. A Spalding hen is raising her 4.....think I'll try to have only mom raised chicks next breeding season. Problem with that is mom doesn't let you near them so they stay on the wild side. Those I raise are sweethearts under foot and let me touch them to a point. They peck at me and jump on my arm. I get so attached.
