So, I have 9 chicks. 7 females and 2 males. They are 6 weeks old. They were my first ever hatchlings and I love them, but sadly I'm going to sell them. What is a fair price? 2 are white mystery hen cross barred rock rooster. And the other 6 are barred rocks cross i.s.a browns are my guess. And the last one a pullet is ayam cenami (probably not spelled right) cross mystery? what should I list all of them for. I was thinking:
PULLETS: 10$
COCKERELS: free or 5$
please tell me what to do. I'm listing them today. should the half ayem cenami one be worth more or not?

Where are you posting them for sale at?
What are others around you charging?

I'd say 3 to 5 dollars each would be good....in my area.

I'm posting them on craigslist, in Kansas. and I don't know what others around me are charging there's a tsc a Bomgaar's 40 minutes away. and a guy 40 minutes away is selling astralorps, speckled sussex, and buff orpingtons day old for 5 to 7 bucks each.

No I don't.
I think you'll be lucky to sell them for 5 dollars but you won't know unless you try.

Post them today.
Also, if I were you I would keep an eye on the ads that I linked above and see how long they stay up.

ok great thanks

I just checked the dates for you.
One ad has only been up for a day and another has been up for almost two and a half weeks.
I'm going to guess that if an advertisement trying to sell chicks has been up for a few weeks that there is not a large market for selling chicks in that particular area.

I'm considering selling some of my chicks, too. I haven't been able to find information on what others are selling for, either (west central Missouri, just outside of the KC metro). I have barnyard mixes of dual-purpose heritage breeds. Having nothing to go on, I just looked at what they sell for at the hatcheries and grocery stores, then considered the value of my chick starter and vitamins, utilities, incubators and other equipment, and my TIME, attention and worry. Here's what I came up with:

Hatching eggs - $4 a dozen.
That's just what I sell eggs for anyway, and about 90-95% are fertilized, so there's no point in charging more for "hatching eggs" when they're just the same darn eggs.

Newly hatched chicks for the brooder, straight run - $5 each.
The hatcheries around here advertise theirs for $3.50-$5.00 each, and that's about what they sell for at the farm stores.

Cockerels 6-16 weeks - $7 each.

Pullets 6-16 weeks - $10 each.

Pullets over 16 weeks - $15 each or they stay in my flock.

Butchered and packaged, whole, under 18 weeks - $10 each
or they stay in my freezer.

Older, non-laying hens for stew meat, butchered and packaged whole - $5 each
or they go to the burn pit.

Roosters over 18 weeks - FREE - but you must buy at least 3 hens or pullets to go with him.

All of my chicks so far are for my own flock, so I haven't ACTUALLY sold anything, yet. I have a batch in the incubators, though - and we are putting the word out. Several people have shown interest, and two are prepping coops for them. If no takers, no bother - I have orders already on a waiting list for processed whole chickens, and I can hatch more.
