What to put in a brooder? Other than the essentials

Rocks is a good idea, I will put some rocks and sticks in there. They are 75% araucana and 25% maran I think, so they can probably fly

That is fair, I wouldn’t have guessed it either, they also kinda have the color of silkie chicks

Chickens love to roost, so I built mine a simple ladder type roost with two rungs. They love it, but they still love to roost on top of their heater plate and the food and waterer.

I made a small roost with dowels and a couple of 2x6 boards. They love it. It’s two levels and they like flying off of it.

At this age I put nothing in brooders. Too many things can and do happen or the chicks get stuck and can’t return to the heat
