What to use for covered chicken run floor

Hello,

I figured I would ask the experts!!!! Or more experienced!!! I got my chickens out for little over a week in their coop! I have a attached run to the coop and it’s covered! I use horse bedding wood pellets in the coop however I decided to place the wood pellets in the cover run no idea why! Well it rained a lot and the pellets expanded to wet sawdust!!!

What do you all use in the covered run for flooring! The run sits on wood then has a rubber cover. I was thinking pea gravel at the bottom then sand on top?!?! I’ll attach photos! Help me!!!!

I use wood chips. Some use shavings

I have used paver sand in this type of setup and it was great in my dry and sunny environment

I layer flattened card board boxes ( I shop on line allot) and then cover it with pine chips. The chickens shred the cardboard to tiny pieces and it all mixes together. When it gets bad, I'll throw another layer of cardboard and chips. I'll shovel it out after about 4-5 months to put in low areas of my yard or use as compost for plants. Then I start all over again. Just make sure you get all the tape and staples off the cardboard so you don't have trash in your compost. I don't use pine shavings because it gets mushy faster because I have allot of rain in my area.
