What to use to catch a COON in a live trap?

We tried a lot of diffrent things that we thought a coon would like to eat. Sardines is the only thing that gets them in the trap. It has worked every time so far.

Our friends use canned cat food and caught so many, they thought they were finding their way back from the drop off place several miles away. So they started spray painting their backsides whilst in the trap with hideous shades of fluorescent paint . . . unfortunately they were all "fresh" new coons, or they figured out how to remove paint from fur!

We caught another one last night with Pedigree dry dog food. They've been into our squirrel feeders again and it drives my DH crazy! Usually it's just one, we catch it and take it away, but we'll reset it again tonight.

That is an excellent idea! We take ours about 5 miles away into a non-residential, heavily wooded area. It's a pain. DH would rather just shoot them, but he caters to my soft heart and gives them a chance to rough it in the wilds. I've often wondered, because people say they come back. I think we'll be skunk striping them just to find out now.

I use peanut butter to catch `em...works everytime.

Spread it on the flapper , so they have to work at it ,

and the cats don`t get caught in the trap , as they don`t like it.

I've had really good luck with dry cat or dog food. It'll fall into some of the open spaces in the wire and they have to dig to get it out, which triggers the trap. I've also used chicken necks, dangling from the top of the trap by a string.

If you have a lot of ants like we do, you'll have to move the cage the next day and clean up the spilled food.

Helps if you cover the trap with a handful of hay too. Makes 'em think they've discovered somebody's food stash, so they're less cautious.
