What took the trap?

I found the trap...in the backyard (outside the chicken area) in plain sight where it wasn't yesterday...hmmm...I will set it again and see what happens this time. Something took it out of the chicken yard, over the fence. Don't know if that was the source of the rat the dogs 'got'. But I didn't see it out there before. I need a yard cam...lol

where the springs lay against the wood on the rat traps you can put a penny or two under the spring to make the trap work better I use light weight chain to keep the trap from moving here where I am we have wharf rats they are 3/4 the size of muskrats I just use muskrat sized traps to keep them from leaving with my traps

When I am in the room...the cat wisely avoids the whippets when I am not around. She is not an outside cat. If she were, she would be 'fair game'.

Rat traps are alright but are prone to breakage or loss as in your case. I'd recommend you aquire some #0 longspring traps. They are dynamite on rats, will last forever and have the proper chain and rings to securely stake them down. They will also hold a small possum or coon for at least a little while. If you are targeting larger animals, use a # 1 1/2 sleepy creek longspring. They are my go-to coon, mink and muskrat trap for fur trapping and will hold even the biggest coons if checked regularly. They also have the benefit of being able to release dogs or cats relatively unharmed. The lock time is too slow to get most raptors. A good source for both is Minnesota trapline products or Funke trap tags and supplies.
