After years of wondering if we should get chickens we finally took the leap. We adopted 7 Dutch Bantam sisters (Rose, Sophia, Blanche, Dorothy, Delta, Dixie & Reah) from our local vocational school. They were 7 weeks old and I fell in love... fast! Three weeks later we rescued a Rhode Island Red (Rosanne) whos age is unknown. This was August of 2017....2 weeks ago couldn't help myself while visiting the chicks at TSC. I promised my husband that while we were in there killing time I wouldn't ask for a chicken. I ended up bringing home 4 baby Silkies! I could watch these babies all day!

So, all of this is relatively new to us but I feel like we're doing a good job. I mean come on, we all survived the winter! LOL

I don't know why we waited so long! They have been one the most fun, exciting & rewarding things we've done in a long time.

G'Day from down under Chicks Caffeine and Chaos :frowWelcome!

Love your username :clap

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

I waited for a long time as well. When I finally got the chance to get some, we adopted 1 rooster and 4 hens. Unknown breeds (which I'm currently working on with the help of BYC!). Now that I finally have them, I had to get more! Three weeks later my husband ended up getting me 20 baby chicks from TSC! :) 5 Light Brahmas, 5 Amber Links and 10 Red Links. Sometimes I just go outside and stand and watch them scratch around and roam. May sound crazy, but I love them as if they are my own little children. Currently trying to convince my husband on getting more :) lol
