Okay so I got this roo recently. He is almost a year and he is just a heck of a guy! He's gorgious IMO!! He is just so polite too! I was told he was an araucana but I'm guessing an EE because of color and the presence of a tail.. Right?!!

Anywho he's splash with black specks and also a spot of mahogony with creamy highlights all over. The black and mahogony are very shimmery green.

So I'm wondering If I hatched out my EE's eggs with him fertilizing what could I expect? Will any look like him? The splash coloring? Or have white? I dont really understand genetics, especially with the many colors of EE's!

Here's my girls:

I'm most entusiastic about this EE. She's his favorite!! and Mine too!! I love the blue in her. and her tail is solid blue.. but its not shown in the pics!

Could I expect any to come out with blue?!! How many would I have to hatch for the odds to be some splash, and some with blue?!!

Or am I being just silly for asking?!!!

Pretty birds. I have a hen very similar to your blue/red favorite; she is mine, as well.
As for the potential outcome of the offspring, I would recommend trying out the chicken calculator. You punch in the colors of the adults and it gives you the most likely colors and percentages of the offspring. I usually just google chicken calculator and go from there. Good luck!

My very limited understanding of genetics makes me believe that if you breed that rooster to your blue/red hen, you would get blue and splash offspring; and the rest of the flock, you would get blue chicks---I THINK! Someone else with greater genetics knowledge will certainly chime in and offer better help.

Are you sure he's an EE? I know they're crosses, but his legs look yellow and I'm not seeing much for beard and muffs, though that can be hard for me to see in a picture......He sure is a pretty boy though!

You're going to have to use him to tell LOL . Are you sure he's a splash or is he carrying dominate white with a lot of red and black bleeding through ? If he's a Leghorn X EE that might be the case . He is certainly eye candy and going to be an interesting cross .

Holy cow.. the chicken calculator?!! What are all those letters?!!!

Im soo confused.. that is beyond me!

And no I really dont know what he is! I was told Araucana (and "his tail is sparse because he's not supposed to have one!", and "his name if Goof Ball because he's not up to breed standards!") and splash. Maybe I should put a pic in the 'What breed am I' section!? He does have a pea comb and I want to say he has very little muffs and small beard not nearly as big as my ladies'!

I just LOVE him though!! He is an amazing boy!! (and he was FREE!!! because I was looking and the lady had extras! He could have even fathered some of the mutt chicks I just hatched

! but who will ever know!)

Oh no!! Im hooked on hatching as is! We'll see! when my ladies get a little farther into laying then chicks I will have!!! anyone want some!!??

My "top limit" that I set myself to is 35. I'm already at 22!!

Araucanas don't have beards and muffs , some have tufts and are rumpless , and those two qualities are needed for showing but not present in some breeding stock . Beards and muffs would rule out it being pure Araucana , but hatcheries will call anything that might possibly lay a blue egg an Ameraucana/Araucana or either one . People buying from them may never know the difference and think they have a purebred .

Okay so now you got me wondering!! What does a un-bearded, un-muffed chicken look like?!!! Do they look like this(maybe not a great pic!)? I was just saying he was because of the texture!!

although I am not doubting that he is mixed! But who knows?!! haha! whadda-ya think!? I'm open for any thoughts!!

Also does his beak look funny? Its very long and curved down!! (maybe it blends into the ground too well!?)

Is the pic too big? I can resize it!!

What a handsome guy! I'd guess he's an EE with Aracauna blood rather than Ameracauna. My Aracaunas do seem to have longer beaks like that.
Does he have any blue in him? He looks like "splash bleeding red", but I can't tell if he has the blue. If he does, and you breed him to your favorite girl, you should get some blue in the offspring.

I would make a guess based on his general appearence that you're right , EE based on an Araucana background ; hard to say if he's a halfbreed or less , possibly not even an EE but since his previous owner called him Araucana he is most likely an EE .

CCNCLady , you're probably not going to be able to plug him into the chicken calculator and get accurate results . There is no way he is going to fit any phenotype [ the color and patterns you can see ] ; and his genotype [ those silly letters making a mathmatical formula ] is unknown . There are probably people on here that could look him and make an educated guess at what he's carrying , but I'm not one of them LOL . I " think " that on a true splash the black should be diluted to blue . Since his colors are gleaming green in the light I would say he is not blue splash . I " think " he might be white mottled with black and red , but definately not experienced enough to say that with confidence .
