What "tries" to dig under a fence but keeps moving to a new spot?

they have armadillos in CO?

Not common, but apparently possible:

From the Colorado Department of Natural Resources:
"The armadillo is a relative newcomer to Colorado. There are only two or three reports of the animals to date, but we should probably expect to see them in increasing numbers."
"Range: These are very widspread subtropical animals, ranging from northern Argentina into the southern United States. In recent years they have moved into the central Great Plains."

Thanks for the thoughts, all!

This was in daylight. Sometime between 1:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon.

And I've never seen an armadillo or heard of anyone who has seen one around here.

Not impossible, just unlikely.

I ran a skirt around the base of the fence, so if the "something" came back, it found all its work earlier in the day was wasted.

bout anything will do that, most wild critters are nocturnal, but when hungry, and a fresh KFC is cooking chicken for them, they'll try it any time, day or night.
I live in a very rural are near swamps, rivers and creeks, here in south Georgia, we have about all of them, and have seen all of them in day and night time hours around the birds, even have a panther and a cub walk out one evening while a guy was mowing around one of the feilds near the birds.

Electric fence, electric fence, electric fence!!! That's the only way all my stuff is still out there in the mornings, 2 strands, one as close to the ground as possible without shorting it out, 4-6 inches usually, the next about 12 inches off the ground. That stops both digging and chewing threw.
Had just one 6 inches up to start. After a few months they leanred to just chew a hole in the wire 12-18 inches up, second strand stopped that too.
