What turkey is best for me?

So far, I'm leaning towards Blue Slates.

I love my blue slate poult. He/she is 5 weeks old now and just too cool! They imprint so quickly and he follows me everywhere and does the little baby peeps thing. He knows the sound of my voice and will "call" to me. I think it largely depends on how much time you put into it from the start. I've never heard anything really bad about any of the heritage breeds on here. I think you get out of a pet what you put into it. If you spend time and love on them they will return it. There is a heritage turkey website that is also very helpful as well. Bottom line: I think any turkey poult would make a great pet.

You should come and see us!!!!! We are in Bowdon - just down the road. We have Royal Palms and they are very sweet, The hens like to get petted. I adore them....

We have bronze - also tame, I don't know about the "short"life span someone mentioned earlier ....our tom is 3 years old and really alive.

We also have a sweet Jersey buff couple.

I hope I don't get booted from the board, but we also have poults that we would sell as well. Have a blessed day and yes I love my turkeys!

My Midgets from Steve are over a month old now, and let me tell you, They got some SKILZ!!! SurVIVAL skilz!!! Yesterday we were all just haginging out chillin in the back yard and suddenly the midgets gave an alarm call and were hid under stuff in no time flat. I had no idea what spooked them, but then I saw a plastic shopping bag floating high up in the air and get hung up on the power lines... Talk about alert! I think that if you plan to free range yours some, I can FULLY VOUCH for Stever SandSPoultry Midget whites are way smarter than the average poultry. They will have a better than average chance of surviving until you want them for dinner.

I would say get Burbon reds the are a really nice table bird.

Personally, I favor Bourbon Reds because they are the best foragers.
