I set a snap trap to catch a rat. It did it's job, but..... Then something came and turned the rat inside out while eating it. It did not leave with the dead rat stuck in the trap. Only moved it a couple feet away and ate it there behind the duck house
The belly is split from chest down. Looks more like a hole in the picture, but it's a slice from one end to the other. (I opened it on inspection. Lol) The white stick-looking-thing is a backbone that has been picked clean. The tail and rear legs seem to have been pulled through the hind end. The carcass is empty.
Seems the resident tomcat and I are not the only ones hunting rats here. The cat eats them completely or takes them away. He's never left a carcass before. He also doesn't allow any other cats to hunt at my house.
If I can catch another rat I'll put the body in a larger trap. Hopefully I'll catch this critter! My ducks should be safe in their house, but I'm worried about the yard. Don't know when it hunts/scavenges. Was gone most of the day yesterday. Until now I have been the apex predator on my property. I'd like to keep it that way
Any help is greatly appreciated.
