Don't ever use Cedar Chips you can cause some serious respiratory issues!

I'm thinking about going from straw to pine chips. My hens drag out the straw and it has to be replaced every other day or so. I think the chips would stay put in the nests. I see that pine chips are trending a bit higher in use at this time.

I use pine shavings and use the deep litter method. Haven't changed the pine shavings since December. I simply throw more in when it looks too broken down. And I remove any extra large plops of poo, but other than that i ignore it except to run a quick rake threw it to toss it around once a week, unless throwing oatmeal in there gets the chicks to toss it around for me!
