he’s a nightmare but he’s so good to the girls, doesn’t “court” them until they start start laying eggs. modified pea comb it is!
i’ve got a couple chicks that are his. the hen is a polish with the v comb though so now i’m just making some seriously wacky chickens i think.
Those are cockerels and don't have a polish mother. The mixed comb type he has seems to be dominant.
the mother is definitely polish since that’s my only hen who lays white eggs and i selected two of hers for another broody to hatch. i was surprised they don’t have a crest but gloria is definitely their mother. they do look like george did as a youngin.
It's basically a combination of rose and pea comb genes. It's any of the following genetically: RRPP, RrPP, RRPp, or RrPp.
These chicks solve the comb type. He has what looks to be a Smooth Rose comb. The smooth comb gene is recessive, so both parents must have a copy for the smoothness to show. Or he could be a funky variation of walnut with the smooth gene.
D, & E are Walnuts. One horned/rough, the other smooth with a horn.He has a walnut comb.
