What Type Of Feed For Chickens?

Okay, alot of good responses here, but I see there are obviously a lot of different opinions. I was told by an older gentleman that if you wanted them to continue laying you had to feed laying pellets or laying mash. That brings me to my next question. What is the difference between the laying pellets and laying mash? If I start just feeding them either of these and scratch as a treat, would just that suffice. Obviously I want them to continue to lay eggs, but I have been told so many different things, it gets confusing. Another gentleman at the feed store told me to stop the Grow and Feed at their age now and just feed layer to them. I currently have layer pellets, should I consider layer mash? Also, yes they have nesting boxes already and my barred rock is squatting.

The reason I didnt get the oyster shell is because I was told that if their eggs were coming out fine, don't worry about it. Sorry, but just want to make sure everything is right. I will offer some oyster shell in a bowl too.

Okay I have to weigh in on the nest issue. Cat litter boxes are the most econimical and the girls love them. They are dark and cozy. I take the tops off in the summer but this summer it was just too hot. I have a shelf where I place them number depends on which house. I figure three to box but they usually find two or three they like no matter what. Just what I do.
