What type of feed should I use.

I think for chickens its starter at 20% protein for the first 6 weeks. After that you can feed grower feed at 17-14% and when they get close to laying age switch hens to a layer feed. Don't feed layer when they are young as its too high in calcium and can damage organs and cause other problems. If you can't find grower you could keep using starter until you go to layer later on, I did with one of my groups of chicks and I never had a problem, but grower in the middle is your best bet in my experience. Someone whos had chickens longer then me may give you a better answer.

Some say just stick with the starter all the way 'till laying time, 18 to 24 weeks, then
switch to layer. The extra protein won't hurt at all. Many also say to feed the calcium
to the layers separately so they can eat it as they need it rather than include it in their
food.
