what type of grass to plant for goat pasture?

I use deer plot seed mix and chicory seed. My goats do very well on it. The chicory is very drought resistant. I would also recommend lespedeza.

I just read something disturbing on a goat forum about johnson grass. Apparently it is toxic to goats, especially new spring growth, because it can get high in cyanide. Especially after a freeze. Someone had posted that her goat was laying down writhing in pain and foaming at the mouth and had to be kept at the vet for two days with iv's and the poor goat lost it's sight. Has anyone here ever heard of that? We plan to start raising a couple milking does soon and our pasture is full of the stuff. I also had planned to raise sorghum on our leachfield, however it can pose the same problem :/ Something to be aware of!
