What type of hay?

I switched from Coastal hay to wheat straw two weeks ago. The straw is two dollars a bale less than Coastal. The overnight eggs are amazingly cleaner. I did not have to do a full clean out last weekend. Really impressed with it. The only drawback I see is if I have to add some in the evening. There are so many seeds in it that they need water. I usually don't have water in the coop.

Ok, so here I am the lone hay user. I have no trouble with it at all. Every single morning I go into their pens and "fork" out the poo patties that are in there. All of them. I have no wetness or smell because I clean it really good every day and it seriously only takes me a few minutes per pen to do it correctly.

No mold or dampness but they do not have food or water at night. I do deep litter and add hay on top of the cleaned pens when needed. When it gets really cold I make sure that they've got new extra hay to snuggle in.

I get the hay for free and I don't use it sparingly because I don't have to.
