What type of roosts do turkeys prefer?

Is a 2 x 4 roost with flat side up like I would do for chickens best? One has taken to roosting on a small secondary coop in the enclosed run over night, but he still looks like he'd prefer to be higher. The other one still goes into the coop at night, and usually chooses a wider shelf to roost on in there. What would be the best type of roost to provide...for both inside and out? Thanks!

The flat side of a 2x4 is great if you get enough support under it. I use a 4x4 or landscape timber. They like the size and it doesn't sag as bad without too many supports.

We use the smaller trees we clear from our woods for roosts.

I would just like to add...............I am soooo scared of turkeys hahha

which is a shame cause kellyhm has a beautiful huge turkey but dang they are big!

20 ft up in the pine tree's, even in the dead of winter with a -20 below wind chill, and no frost bite. the next morning I was looking for turkey popsicles. and they where not grouped together
