What Type of Siding?

My small barn was built using that chipwood type of plywood, which I have to paint every couple of years. The chickens peck at the sides and take little pieces of it off as soon as there is a curled edge visible.

I know I can cover it with tar paper, but what would the least expensive and easiest type of siding to use? Until I started hanging out here, I thought I was going to put up cedar shingles.

You can still use cedar shingles. It's the oil and dust in the shavings that cause breathing problems in small animals.
