what types of natural food

I was wondering if there are plants i can put around pen that the chickens can feed from. Fruits, vegetables, special high omega 3 grasses etc. Seems
like there is much more for the young chicks to eat besides chicken feed bought in the store.....
New to chicks. We just got major snow here in colorado so i wont be planting yet. yikes

I plant a large amount of kale plants. Those can stand up to considerable abuse and produce large amounts of greens for the chickens and my family during the cooler months. They even over winter a lot of the time.
