what was hanging out my chickens bum?

One of my hens was walking around and I noticed she had quite abit of poo on her rear. I thought I better take a look. I was shocked to see a white thing with some poo on the end hanging out. I gently gave it a little pull which kicked in her reaction to poop. The poo slid over the white paper like tissue and came out. I have no idea what it is. It feels kind of gritty like some eggs feel kind of gritty. And it looks like a thicker version of the skin on the inside of an egg. Any ideas? She is acting normal.

It is an egg membrane. She has had a soft or shell-less egg burst inside her. You may want to syringe some weak vinegar solution into her vent only today to flush out any egg left behind, and to cleanse it. Things like this can cause egg yolk peritonitis down the road.
