What was your first breed(s)?

Golden comets, Rhode Island Reds, Black Aussies, Barred Rocks. Comets layed earliest at 16 weeks. More Barred Rocks were friendly earlier than others. Black Aussies sweetest, but very shy until around 6 - 7 months. Comets least likely to make friends.

I started out with a Cuckoo Maran, Red Leghorn, Silver-spangled Hamburg (hen and roo), Silver-pencilled Wyandotte and two white silkies at first and then added two Golden Lakenvelders, a Welsummer and an Easter Egger a few months later.
I guess, I'm addicted to a colorful backyard and egg basket

I started out with a white Silkie rooster who supposedly "didn't" crow lol. It definitely did!

Then my school ordered chicks from McMurray and I got a Birchen Cochin roo, 2 Red Frizzle hens, and a red cochin hen.

When I was growing up we had white leghorns. When I was about 4 yrs old, I used to throw them over the fence into the neighbor's yard and go tell my mother and grandmother that the chickens flew over there and that I had to 'retreive' them. You see there was a sweet elderly woman who lived next door who loved children and gave them CANDY !!

If I had an excuse to go over there, I could get buttermints galore

Of course the grownups all caught on eventually after they clipped the chickens wings but I still did it lol
I have a soft spot for white leg horns ever since lol.

My own first chickens were Barred Rocks and then RIR. Still some of my favs.
