My first geese were bought as goslings from the feed store, 1 American Buff and 3 Production Toulouse goslings. I ended up keeping a pair, the American Buff gander and the only female a Production Toulouse goose. The other 2 Toulouse ganders went to live on old couple's pond. Then later that early spring the female started laying and she had a nest of 7 or 8 eggs and sat and sat on them, I finally moved her and got her off her nest after about 40 days were up and the eggs all had goslings in them but they had died at multiple stages on development. I felt so sorry for her her, I pitched the eggs into the field in front of our house and destroyed the nest so she wouldn't be tempted to set on the empty nest, after a week of constant honking and yelling at me for taking her "babies" they both calmed down. I had them for another 3 months before I had someone call me asking if I had any geese or ducks I wanted to sell so they could put them on their pond, I sold them the pair of geese and a couple ducks.
Fast forward 2 years and Late March of this year, the feed store had goslings (ACK!) I bought a pair of Embdens because you can sex them because of their down colors. I hand-raised them and they are still friendly but not as friendly as they were when babies when they followed me everywhere. *Sigh* I still miss them when they were babies.. THEN 2 months later I get 4 Sebastopols (3 Buff and 1 Grey) from a BYC'er on here. LOVE THEM! They are very docile and calm. Last month I had put the Embdens in with the Sebastopols and right away the Embdens were the bosses. The Embden gander quickly showed the 2 Sebastopols ganders who the real boss was! They are my babies! First it was Chickens then Ducks and know Geese! The geese all have different personalitys and I love them for that! (Oh and the goslings are Oh so adorable, also!) This fall I'm wanting to get a pair or trio of Shetland geese from Holderreads but its still a little iffy on getting them because I would need ANOTHER pen for them this breeding season so I could have pure-breed goslings.
*Phew!* That wasn't suppose to be that long! LOL
