A little backstory - At some point last night my hens went to bed, but apparently, my rooster didn't go in before the door was blown shut. (We're assuming it was the wind because none of us closed it). By the time we realized what had happened, it was dark and we couldn't find the rooster. I actually thought something had gotten him like my last rooster.
So, around 2:30 this morning I woke to a horrific screaming sound. Ran outside (in my underwear, mind you. Oh, and our power went off during a storm last night so there was NO light anywhere) and found my rooster running and screaming with some smaller shadow creature chasing after him. It kept jumping at him as he was running away. Like I said, it was dark so I couldn't see clearly, but the animal was obviously smaller than the rooster. He's a Rhode Island Red, so he's not exactly small. I'm in Missouri. Any idea what kind of creature would attack like that? And do I need to worry about it finding its way into the coop? When I started yelling "Heyheyhey!" as loud as I could it took off into the woods.
