What went wrong with my butter?

I tried for the first time to make butter using a tub of double cream and a cake making machine.
It turned butter like and seperated from the buttermilk but it still tasted like fresh cream, even when I added salt.
Is it supposed to taste like this when it is homemade or am I tasting it more because I can't stand fresh cream?

It looks like it might need a little more mix time to separate out the butter milk better, also you might want to try washing and kneading it. That will take a lot more of the butter milk out also. But, you are on the right track, it looks like it should.
 
I have got two of those wooden pat (paddles) but the butter just stuck to them so I gave up! I have a muslin tea towel that was for winding a baby so I put the butter in and ran the tap over it.
