Yeah I know. I'm going to buy more Silkies (Georgies and Marilyns mothers) from a family member and give them eggs when they go broody (of course I'll give eggs to Lilly, Chickie and Daisy too).

I can think of three things off hand. Temperature fluctuations, too low humidity at hatch, or chicks sticking to their shells because of lack of turning. One or more of those things is probably the cause because they usually are when you get a poor hatch.

Another possibility is that the hen or rooster didn't have a great nutritional ration when the eggs were laid. If the mother hen especially didn't have the right feed and vitamins, then at the end of hatching the chick wouldn't have what it needs to thrive and hatch.
